Angel Locsin and team Iba Yan bring sparkle back to drag queens affected by the pandemic.
The country was first put under community quarantine last March. Few months later, the situation is still far from being under control as the number of COVID-19 positive individuals continue to increase. The pandemic has definitely affected Filipino people's livelihood making it almost impossible to earn in this time of crisis and one of the most affected are the the performers and entertainers who usually have large number of audience like our drag queens.
The first thing that comes to mind when you think of "Drag" is sparkle. Their snatched make-up, over the top costumes, their impeccable transformation, and their unbelievable talent to entertain is what makes a drag sparkle but because of the pandemic, some drag queens lost this sparkle. A what used to be a shining shimmering stage turned quiet and our queens been displaced and are now performing behind their computers.
On the 8th episode of Iba Yan, Angel Locsin and team bring back the sparkle to these queens on their own little way. They provided a platform for these queens to perform through an online concert called "Kinang".
It is not just a simple concert as it also aimed to raise funds for the displaced LGBTQ+ amid the pandemic. Aside from the online benefit concert, the episode itself is dedicated to tell the stories of these Queens.
Angel Locsin chats with Drag Playhouse PH founder Jan Lamban and member Ian Jaurigue at a place very close to their hearts.
The drag artists share how they discovered their love for their craft and talk about the challenges that the LGBTQIA+ community continues to face. Angel then gives a surprise visit to Thammy Gan, one of the pioneers of drag in the Philippines and brought with her some gifts to help her amid the pandemic.
