Reporter Mario Dumaual on Angel Locsin, “here’s how to carry pain with dignity and grace” during ABS-CBN’s Caravan para sa Prangkisa

On Friday, July 10, Angel Locsin among other celebrities along with supporters and workers of ABS-CBN headed to Congress to urge lawmakers to vote in favor of ABS-CBN’s franchise renewal.

Angel joined the solidarity caravan “Caravan para sa Prangkisa” that started at the ABS-CBN complex and headed to the House complex in Batasan Hills, Quezon City, holding a banner that read "Give us a chance to be better” with a red, blue, and green background to match the media giant’s colors.

The network’s old franchise lapsed on May 4, after lawmakers failed to deliberate on it on time and was ordered by National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) to halt its operations the day after. Ever since the station went off air, its employees, artists and supporters have been calling for reconsideration to discuss its franchise renewal that finally happened on May 13. It’s been an ongoing national dispute since and after months of congressional hearings, darkness falls over ABS-CBN compound in Quezon City on July 10 after the House committee rejects its franchise application.

An overwhelming majority of the House committee  voted NO to renewal, 70 casted their votes to adopt the rejection, only 11 to dismiss the rejection, 2 to inhibit, and 1 to abstain.

ABS-CBN employees including its artists and supporters grieve over the denial of franchise renewal, could not hold back their tears after hearing the news while some stood in shock.

Angel Locsin who has been vocal about her disagreement on the government’s order to close ABS-CBN's broadcast operations, as it costs even more Filipinos their livelihood amid pandemic, said she’s lost in thoughts, heartbroken for her home and family in the industry. Despite that, the actress remains strong and hopeful, stayed with the people she’s been fighting for until late in the night as they mourned together in front of the network’s compound.

ABS-CBN’s reporter Mark Dumaual shared a video of the actress during the caravan saying, “@therealangellocsin 👏🏻here’s how to carry pain with dignity and grace; with gratitude and head held up high in the face of tyranny ; #darna always forward onward #kapitlang @abscbnnews.”

Dumaual also held these moments deep in his heart, staying with familiar faces on board a sinking ship as he said on another Instagram video post where Angel was also spotted.
