“Puso at Konsiderasyon”: Angel Locsin calls for the release of the jeepney drivers who were arrested in Caloocan.
With the global pandemic hitting the country, Metro Manila and some provinces with Covid-19 positive cases were put under Enhanced Community Quarantine. Because of this, many were left with no choice but to stay at home and stop working. Most of those who were badly affected are minimum wage earners and those who do not have a fixed income and are defending on their daily hustle like vendors and drivers. With ECQ in place, jeepney drivers, tricycle drivers and public utility vehicle drivers have to stop their operations.
On June 1, Metro Manila and other parts of the country eased coronavirus lockdown. Some establishments are slowly opening and going back to normal operations however, PUV’s are still not allowed to operate and some jeepney operators are not pleased with this directive and held a protest. Six jeepney operators who are members of PISTON held a protest calling on the government to allow jeepney drivers to operate to have a source of income.
Unfortunately, these drivers were put behind bars instead for violating GCQ guidelines and will not be released until they post a bail according to Caloocan police chief.
On her Instagram account, Angel Locsin calls for the release of the jeepney drivers “Please, if you cannot help them, let them go home” she said.
The actress also calls for compassion and consideration for the jeepney drivers and said “They just want food for their families. Maraming gutom. Sabihin na nating may natanggap pero hindi natin alam kung enough na ba yun para sa pamilya nila para mapilitan silang lumabas. Konting puso and consideration”
