#MEGAPinoyPride: Our modern-day hero, Angel Locsin!




In this time of pandemic, we have seen how people persevere to help each other. People come together to help our frontliners, health workers and those who are in need. One person that first comes to mind when it comes to helping others is Angel Locsin, dubbed as real-life Darna.


Darna, a fictional character created by Mars Ravelo is known to have her supernatural powers and using them to fight villains to save the country and bring peace just like Angel Locsin who, without any supernatural powers always fly to far-flung areas to extend help and bring smile to people who were badly affected by disasters whether it be man-made or natural.


To commemorate Philippines' Independence day, MEGA Magazine listed ten talented and tenacious individuals that truly makes us proud to be a Filipino one of which is Angel Locsin.




Over the past decade we have seen how Angel Locsin rose to the occasion every time our country is in dire need of help and bayanihan. No one can ever forget her efforts during typhoon Ondoy where she helped packing and distributing relief goods, she also spearheaded an online auction called Shop and Share together with her friends in the industry Anne Curtis and Dimples Romana. When the country was badly hit by typhoon Yolanda, she once again did a very selfless act by donating her vintage car Chevrolet Chevelle to Sagip Kapamilya. Proceeds from the sale of her car was used to build classrooms in areas badly affected by the said super typhoon.


In the recent years, we are touched by her benevolence when she visited war-stricken Marawi to check on our Muslim brothers and sisters who were displaced. She is also one of the first ones to visit the quake-hit areas in Mindanao and since the onset of the pandemic, we have seen her maximize her resources to raise funds that can aide our health workers combat this virus.


As we all know, Angel Locsin would rather not draw attention for herself but being THE Angel Locsin that she is, it is impossible for her grand gesture of altruism to go unnoticed. In fact, just recently, she was recognized by a prestigious business magazine Forbes Asia as one of 30 Heroes Of Philanthropy: Catalysts For Change. Her humanitarian efforts did not stop there as she continues to be a catalysts for change at present. A real-life Darna and angel indeed!

Mayor Isko to Angel Locsin, “Mabasa ka sana ng ulan para dumami ka pa.”

City of Manila Mayor Isko Moreno was filled with so much gratitude as he thanked those people for their outpouring support to the city of Manila via donations and to those who have provided assistance including the philanthropic actress Angel Locsin and her fiancé Neil Arce. The couple and their team who are behind the #UniTentWeStandPH campaign have donated 12x24 isolation tents to Gat Andres Bonifacio Memorial Medical Center that would be used for persons under investigation and COVID-19 patients. The said campaign aims to help address overcrowding amid the surge of cases of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) by providing additional room at hospitals operating at full capacity due to the pandemic. 22 hospitals have already received isolation tents and Angel is set to provide tents to 38 more in the coming days. Angel Locsin’s stance on ABS-CBN Closure: “Hindi ako uupo at mananahimik”

Earlier this afternoon, National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) orders ABS-CBN to halt its broadcast operations following the expiration of its franchise. This means that more than 11,000 employees of ABS-CBN and its subsidiaries will lose their source of income and it was rather heartbreaking as this shutdown of the Philippines’ biggest broadcast network comes at worst possible time amid pandemic. Darna to the rescue! A closer look to the sleeping tents for our health workers provided by Angel Locsin, Neil Arce and team!

On her Instagram account, Angel Locsin with her fiance Neil Arce and their team launched a "Donate a Bed" project. They aim to source out spare beds from their industry friends which will be used in the sleeping tents for health workers that they are going to set-up. A day after they collected the beds, the team began setting up the sleeping tents and after two days of hard work, they are able to turn-over the fully furnished sleeping tents to Taguig's local government unit. If you are wondering how the sleeping tents look like from the inside or how the security and sanitation on the area works, Niña Aquino, one of the volunteers who helped setting up the tents gave some details about that matter on her Facebook account. According to Aquino, there are receptionist with complete PPE to facilitate registration. There are also security guards roving 24 hours to ensure safety and tents will be disinfected and and will be cleaned regularly.

After visiting evacuation centers in Batangas, Angel Locsin made an accounting and lists down donated goods to Taal Volcano eruption victims. Known for her humanitarian efforts, the actress thanked everyone who helped her for this initiative which includes her family, friends in the industry and fans. On her Instagram post, the actress expressed her gratitude to more than 100 volunteers who helped them repack food packs and hygiene kits.
