San Miguel to produce disinfectant alcohol from Ginebra plant to combat COVID-19 spread

Coronavirus chaos spares no one. Everyone is affected and thousands have already died of the disease. This is when people of all nations come together to fight the virus and avert a much bigger crisis whether it’s strictly adhering to social distancing or extending aid to the front line workers and those of the working class that suffers from “no work no pay” caused by this catastrophe. Many companies and individuals are giving back during this pandemic to better the lives of these people and from a business and government perspective, what we have seen in the last few weeks and days, is how fast we can move and make decisions when we want to affect change as a society.

In a report by ABS-CBN News, one of the country’s biggest conglomerates San Miguel Corp. is looking to use their Ginebra San Miguel facility to produce and give away disinfectant alcohol for free to aid efforts to combat the novel coronavirus pandemic. The company's president and COO Ramon Ang said that SMC is working to get a government clearance to produce and distribute 70 percent ethyl alcohol in bulk to LGUs and public hospitals for humanitarian reasons. He also added that the company is also donating to LGUs its own brand of disinfectant powder used in hog farms and other facilities.

San Miguel Corp. is just one of the many giants who takes part in battling this outbreak. Aside from these corporations, there are also private individuals and celebrities who are doing their bit to fight the deadly virus like Vice Ganda, Bela Padilla, Pokwang, Maine Mendoza, K-Brosas, Angelica Panganiban and Angel Locsin.

Together we can turn the tides on Corona Virus. We don't know how long this thing will go on for. But what we know is it has its end and we just need to play our part, no matter how small, to save many, many thousands of lives. This, too, shall pass.
