JUST IN: Angel Locsin on Forbes’ List of Asia’s 2019 Heroes of Philanthropy!
It is not surprising when the name Angel Locsin made headlines for her charitable efforts. It is rather moving and inspiring that many laud the actress for. Every time she showed up to help, she did so without any media announcements, her philanthropic acts are just captured by those who witnessed her visits, posting videos and photos online.
Today, Angel Locsin was recognized yet again for her generous donations to charity and advocacies for social change.
Together with the second-generation tycoon Hans Sy of the SM Group, Angel has been named in Forbes' 13th annual Heroes of Philanthropy list featuring "30 outstanding altruists" in Asia-Pacific.
“To choose these honorees, we sifted through dozens of candidates, reviewing their monetary contributions, the depth of their involvement and the reach of their philanthropic efforts. Our aim is to highlight those giving their own money, not their company’s (unless they are the majority owners of a privately-held firm). We also don’t include those who are full-time fundraisers or foundation heads, unless they’ve personally given the bulk of funds to start a charitable organization,” Forbes said.
“This year’s members are devoted to a range of endeavors. Among them: Angel Locsin, one of the Philippines’ most famous actresses, supports causes aiding victims of violence, natural disasters and the conflict in Mindanao.”
Forbes said Locsin has donated 1 million pesos to the victims of quake-hit Mindanao and about ₱15 million in the past decade through a mix of educational scholarships and aid to typhoon victims, while also pushing causes for the rights of indigenous peoples and combatting violence against women and children. Her humanitarian efforts in Marawi and during the country’s largest disasters: Tropical Storm Ondoy in 2009, Typhoon Habagat in 2012 and Typhoon Haiyan in 2013, were also recognized.
There is no denying that Angel Locsin is a modern-day hero. Although she always humbly dissented the remark, her impact and influence speak for themselves.
