BREAKING: Angel Locsin congratulates Jane De Leon for being the new DARNA!

“Congratulations, Jane De Leon :),” says Angel Locsin on a comment when Advertising and Promotions Director at ABS-CBN Film Productions Inc. Mico Del Rosario posted on his Instagram that young star, Jane De Leon, will be the next Darna.

On a report by MJ Felipe of ABS-CBN News, ABS-CBN Films' managing director Olivia Lamasan told them herself, "We have found a new Darna and she is none other than Jane De Leon!" when asked about the latest Darna project. ‘This was her opening statement and also shared that that almost 300 celebrities auditioned -- from Star Magic and Starhunt to talent scouts and camps -- for the iconic role,’ the report also says.

The said report also details why the ABS-CBN Management and the project director, Jerrold Tarog chose De Leon to don the distinctive and iconic red and gold costume.

She was an instinctive actress as described by the Darna director and was his top pick after presenting her audition tapes during the deliberation.

ABS-CBN Film’s Olivia Lamasan seemed impressed on the young star’s beauty, attitude and instinct. She also shared that the Darna to expect is a genesis story, a coming of age.

It can be recalled that the iconic role was first handed over to Liza Soberano who had to renounce the project due to an unfortunate incident while filming Bagani that badly fractured her finger.

After months of deliberation, it was a unanimous decision to give the Filipina Superhero a new face and Jane De Leon, 20 and a Star Magic talent, got the breakthrough role.

She has appeared in various TV projects, including “Halik” where she played Jericho Rosales's sister Maggie Bartolome

and in 2017 fantasy drama series "La Luna Sangre" as one of the moonchasers.

She was also part of the girl group Girltrends of "It's Showtime."
